THE LEELA PALACES, Hotels and Resorts unveiled The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary as the new identity for its recently acquired Coorg retreat in Coorg, Karnataka. The property joins the brand's portfolio as the company marked its 40th anniversary.

The 71-villa property in Coorg near Madikeri spans 76 acres amid coffee and spice plantations in the Western Ghats and offers nature-based experiences, hospitality and wellness, Leela said in a statement. The new identity reflects its strategy of developing destinations rooted in local landscapes and culture.

"The unveiling of The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary represents an important milestone in our journey of creating destinations that are deeply rooted in their surroundings," said Anuraag Bhatnagar, CEO of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts. "As we continue to expand our portfolio across India's most remarkable destinations, The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary reflects our belief that the most memorable luxury experiences are those that celebrate the unique character of a destination rather than simply existing within it."

The retreat is located on one of Coorg's oldest coffee estates and has IGBC Platinum certification, the statement said. It includes duplex, family and private pool villas, as well as the four-bedroom Sunbeam Presidential Villa overlooking the forest.

Guests can take part in guided forest walks, plantation trails, birdwatching, waterfall visits, cycling and stargazing. The activities highlight the region's biodiversity, culture and coffee-growing heritage.

Dining options include Luma, Zen, The Cellar and 92 Degrees. The Estate to Brew experience includes estate walks, coffee tastings and sessions on the region's coffee history.

The retreat also includes a seven-acre lake and a private helipad, Leela said. Wellness facilities include the 27,000-square-foot Aujasya by The Leela wellness center, outdoor treatment spaces and the Vinyasa Yoga Deck overlooking the lake.

The property reflects the company's strategy of expanding across gateway cities and leisure destinations while developing hospitality experiences rooted in local landscapes, culture and traditions, the statement said.

The Leela was founded in 1986 by Capt. C. P. Krishnan Nair with the opening of The Leela Mumbai, according to the company's website. Toronto-based Brookfield Corp., the principal sponsor of Bengaluru-based Schloss Bangalore, acquired the brand in 2019. Schloss Bangalore went public in May. At present, the company has 24 hotels in operation and in the pipeline.

The Leela ranked second among hotel brands in the Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards 2026. The Leela Palace Udaipur ranked second among resorts in India and was included in the survey's list of the world's top 100 hotels. The Leela Palace New Delhi ranked second among city hotels in India.
