- Oberoi Rajgarh Palace makes the world's most beautiful list.
- The palace is around 350 years old.
- Prix Versailles is a UNESCO supported architecture award.
The Oberoi Group opened the property in November last year. Spread across 76 acres, the property offers 65 rooms and suites divided between garden rooms and a palace wing.
The palace, a restored fortress set amid forests, lakes and rolling hills near Panna National Park, was picked for its architecture and the way it sits within its surroundings, according to Prix Versailles. The list is an international design award backed by UNESCO that covers hotels, restaurants, airports and museums across the globe.
India is home to several palace hotels, from royal residences in Rajasthan to restored forts in other parts of the country. Heritage hospitality is a well-established segment here, which makes the Rajgarh Palace recognition stand out even within a competitive field.
The prices start at around $420 to $682 per night during off-peak periods, while the Kohinoor Suite starts at around $11,528 per night. The property is in the ultra-luxury segment, combining modern amenities with a restored historic setting.
The building served as a fortress before it was converted into a hotel and the restoration retained much of the original structure. Water features, including reflecting pools, narrow channels and shaded courtyards, remain part of the property's design and were originally intended to help cool the palace during the region's hot summers. The approach to preservation may have helped set the property apart.
Inside, the design reflects central India's royal past. Handcrafted furniture, woven textiles and carved details appear throughout the interiors. The property's design emphasizes its architecture and surrounding landscape, while wide terraces and open corridors offer views of nearby forests and hills. For Khajuraho, the listing gives visitors another reason to extend their stay beyond the nearby temple complex, which draws travelers from around the world.
Recently, The Oberoi signed an MoU with Springedge Solutions Pvt. Ltd. to develop a $43 million, 150-room Trident Hotels property in Amritsar, Punjab.
