AURO HOTELS WILL bring South Carolina's first JW Marriott to downtown Greenville. The 335-room hotel will redevelop the Bowater Building overlooking the Reedy River.
The City of Greenville and The Furman Co. are partnering with Auro on the project, part of the planned 6-acre Falls Park Conference District, Auro said in a statement. The district will include a city-owned conference center, residential and office space, retail, structured parking and public green space.
Pending approvals, construction is expected to begin in mid-2027 and take 18 to 24 months. The hotel is expected to create about 175 jobs upon opening. It will be Auro Hotels' seventh hotel in Greenville and sixth in the downtown area.
The project will retain the Bowater Building while incorporating JW Marriott's design standards, Auro said. It will include a fitness center, four food and beverage outlets, the brand's JW Garden, an executive lounge, more than 8,800 square feet of meeting and event space and outdoor terraces overlooking the Reedy River.
An elevated pedestrian bridge will connect the hotel to the conference center and downtown, the statement said. Additional announcements on the Falls Park Conference District will be made by Auro Hotels, the City of Greenville and The Furman Co. as planning and approvals continue.
Greenville-based Auro is led by President and CEO D.J. Rama.
"Greenville's success has been built one thoughtful decision at a time. For more than 20 years, this community has made intentional investments in its downtown, its parks, its culture and its quality of life,” Rama said. “We believe the arrival of South Carolina's first JW Marriott reflects the destination Greenville has become. As a company founded and headquartered here more than 50 years ago, we are incredibly proud to continue investing in the city that has shaped our story."
Bruce Rohr, JW Marriott vice president and global brand leader, said the hotel marks an milestone for the brand in South Carolina.
"As we continue to grow in destinations that offer a strong sense of place and connection, Greenville stood out immediately," he said. "There is an authenticity to the city, a deep appreciation for its natural surroundings and a clear vision for its future that aligns closely with the values of JW Marriott."
Greenville Mayor Knox White said the hotel reflects the city's long-term vision and reinforces Greenville's position as a destination.
Auro added the 135-key Courtyard by Marriott Greenville Downtown to its portfolio with T2 Hospitality in Greenville, South Carolina. It owns and operates five other hotels in Greenville with a combined 1,150 rooms.
