OPO HOTELS & RESORTS will open its first West Bengal hotel in New Town, Kolkata, in mid-October, ahead of Durga Puja. The company signed the management agreement on Aug. 31.

The hotel is opposite Axis Mall, Opo said in a statement. It will have 24 rooms, a 40-seat all-day restaurant, two banquet spaces and a rooftop bar and lounge.

"For Opo Hotels & Resorts, expansion is not about simply adding keys to our portfolio," said Sandeep Basu, Opo CEO. "It is about identifying the right markets, partnering with the right owners and creating properties with a clear commercial and experiential proposition."

Basu said New Town offers a strategic location, a strong hospitality market and multiple revenue streams.

New Town-Rajarhat has corporate offices, retail, entertainment venues and hotels, the statement said. The hotel will target corporate and leisure travelers and local residents, with its restaurant and banquet spaces hosting meetings, celebrations and social events.

The Kolkata hotel is part of Opo's expansion across eastern and northeastern India. The company has hotels planned in Guwahati and Itanagar and is seeking more management partnerships. Under its asset-light model, Opo partners with property owners and handles operations, sales, revenue management and guest experience.

In February, Opo opened the 40-room Opo Horizon Surbhi Grant in Khatu, Rajasthan, near the Khatu Shyam Temple, which draws millions of devotees each year.
