Punjab reviews $6.4M tourism projects

THE PUNJAB GOVERNMENT reviewed tourism and heritage infrastructure projects in the state. The projects are worth more than $6.4 million.

The review by Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond covered several initiatives aimed at promoting tourism, preserving Punjab’s cultural heritage and improving visitor infrastructure, according to PTI.

The initiatives included a $1.14 million heritage welcome gate at the entrance to Punjab, planned as a landmark gateway to the state and the $860,000 Malout Craft Corridor in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, which aims to promote traditional crafts and support local artisans.


The review also covered the $930,000 heritage street development and beautification work at Gurdwara Tutti Gandi Sahib, also in Sri Muktsar Sahib district.

Other initiatives included the $1.49 million expansion of the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Museum in Sunam town, Sangrur district, which involves the construction of an auditorium and a memorial gate at the entrance.

The $2.08 million eco-tourism development at Kanjli Wetlands in Kapurthala district covers the operation, maintenance and management of the facility for five years.

Separately, The Oberoi Group and Springedge Solutions signed an MoU to develop a $43 million, 150-room Trident Hotel in Amritsar, Punjab, marking the brand’s first hotel in the state.
