- Adani plans $2.32 billion airport city development.
- Projects span 655 acres in six Indian airports.
- AAHL signed five hotel deals with IHG Hotels & Resorts.
The first phase plans for roughly 22 million square feet of infrastructure, according to PTI. The projects will cover over 655 acres across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati. About 70 percent of the investment will go into Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, which together cover around 440 acres.
The plan is to build mixed-use districts around these airports, combining hotels, retail, entertainment, convention spaces and offices. These districts will be connected to airport, metro and city transport networks, according to AACL.
"Around the world, the most successful airport districts have become centres of commerce, tourism and urban growth,” Jeet Adani, AAHL director, told PTI. “We are creating a network of integrated urban destinations where airports become catalysts for investment, employment, better passenger experiences and the long-term growth of the cities they serve.”
Adani said the goal is to build vibrant districts combining connectivity with experience, generating economic activity, jobs and long-term value for nearby communities.
The initiative draws on the model of established airport districts such as Singapore's Changi, Dubai International, Amsterdam's Schiphol and Seoul's Incheon airports. The airport city projects received LEED Gold pre-certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, which assesses sustainable design and resource use.
The project's partners include architecture firms Kohn Pedersen Fox, Benoy, and Znera Space; construction companies Larsen & Toubro, Tata Projects and PSP Projects; and consultants CBRE, JLL and Cushman & Wakefield, who handle planning, design and execution.
As part of the program, AAHL signed hotel management agreements with IHG Hotels & Resorts for five luxury and premium hotels, including the launch of the Kimpton brand in India.
AAHL currently manages airports in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, and is also developing the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
