- OYO Las Vegas accused of misleading listings.
- Listings appeared on major booking sites.
- Guests could get refunds or upgrades.
The listings appeared on major travel booking sites even though both properties shared OYO’s location. Traveler Ariana Patiño said she booked Palette Las Vegas because she wanted to avoid OYO, according to Las Vegas travel influencer Jennifer Gay. When Patiño arrived and asked about Palette, a front-desk worker allegedly told her the listings were created to see which name would get more attention.
Exterior photos of OYO appeared to have been changed using AI, with the hotel’s actual signs replaced by Palette and Collection O branding. The changes made the listings appear to be separate hotels, Vital Vegas reported.
The listings appeared as new properties on OYO’s website and on platforms including Booking.com, Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Hotels.com and Trip.com. Both were listed at 115 East Tropicana Avenue, the same address as OYO Hotel & Casino, while OYO’s website showed them at nearby addresses.
PRISM, in a statement, said it was evaluating whether different accommodation options at the property could be listed under different brands.
“As part of our broader dual-brand strategy for the different accommodation options at the property, we were evaluating how different blocks, or room categories could be positioned under different brands,” the statement said. “However, the listing went live while the related renovations and signage at the property were still being completed.”
The company reviewed the issue and took immediate steps to correct the affected listings. It said the listings would only be made available once the related renovations were complete.
The separate listings would also have created new review pages instead of using OYO’s existing reviews. At the time, OYO had a 1.7-star Yelp rating, with guests reporting dirty rooms, broken elevators, faulty air conditioning and maintenance problems. Collection O had a 4-out-of-10 rating on Travelocity, with 10 of its first 15 reviewers giving it the lowest score.
PRISM also said it was contacting affected guests to explain what happened. Where appropriate, guests could receive upgraded rooms at no extra cost or a refund.
Palette and Collection O are existing names connected to OYO. Palette is a brand owned by OYO’s parent company PRISM, while Collection O is offered through OYO’s booking network.
Last year, OYO reduced the refundable guest deposit at OYO Hotel & Casino Las Vegas from $300 to $100.
