MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL LAUNCHED “Project Prarambh” to train young people from vulnerable communities across India for hospitality careers. The program will focus on skills training, workplace exposure and mentorship.
Marriott is working with The Job Plus and the Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council to run the initiative, the company said in a statement. THSC will handle training, assessment and certification, while The Job Plus will identify and prepare candidates for roles in the organized workforce. The initiative will support people ages 18 to 30 and aims to train 500 people over two to three years.
Organizations across India will deliver the training.
"Through Project Prarambh, we are bringing these two priorities together, building people while supporting the community we operate within, and strengthening the industry's talent pipeline," said Kiran Andicot, Marriott's senior vice president for South Asia.
The initiative is guided by Marriott's Serve 360 sustainability and social impact framework and is intended to address the hospitality industry's need for skilled workers.
Vinay Jaswal, Marriott's vice president of human resource operations for South Asia and HR technology and analytics for APEC, said Project Prarambh reflects the company's focus on participation, growth and inclusion.
"By investing in their development at an early stage, we can help them take that first step with greater confidence and open possibilities that can have a lasting impact on their lives and those of their families," he said.
"We look forward to building on this association over the long term and working together to create more opportunities for young talent to enter, grow and build careers in the industry," said Natwar Nagar, founder of The Job Plus.
Rajan Bahadur, CEO of THSC, said growth in the tourism and hospitality sector is increasing the need for a skilled, industry-ready workforce.
"CSR-led skilling initiatives can play a critical role in bridging this gap by providing young people with the right skills, practical exposure and opportunities to build sustainable careers," he said. "This initiative is a step toward strengthening the talent ecosystem and preparing our youth for the growing opportunities in the sector."
Through the program, Marriott, The Job Plus and THSC aim to expand access to hospitality careers and help young people move from training into formal employment across the sector, the statement said.
Separately, Chalet Hotels Ltd. is expanding its “Parivartan by Chalet” initiative with The Job Plus and THSC to support 5,000 sustainable livelihoods by 2030.
