INDIAN INVESTIGATORS ARE preparing an interim report on the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash that killed 260 people. The report comes ahead of the first anniversary of the June 12, 2025 accident.

India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau will release the interim report, which will be more detailed than the preliminary report put out last July, a person with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters. The report will look into possible primary causes and other factors that may have contributed to the crash.

The final report will not be ready by the crash anniversary.

"It is a very complex investigation and is taking time," the unnamed source said.

A second source also confirmed that investigators needed more time. Both sources spoke on condition of anonymity. AAIB chief GVG Yugandhar did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment.

By putting out an interim report, Indian authorities will not need to share findings in advance with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, which is part of the investigation as the plane was built in the United States. The NTSB would be allowed to comment on a final report, which could also bring more closure for the families of crash victims.

Under international rules, a final report is due within a year of an accident. If it is not ready, an interim report should be issued on each anniversary. In a similar case, Ethiopian investigators issued a detailed interim report within a year of the March 2019 Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX crash but did not release the final report until December 2022. The AAIB, India's civil aviation ministry and Air India did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was flying from Ahmedabad to London when it lost thrust shortly after takeoff. The 15 -page preliminary report found the engine fuel cutoff switches flipped almost at the same time, cutting off fuel to both engines.

In a separate report, India's international air travel crossed 20 million passengers between October and December 2025, up 8 percent from the previous year.
