GOOGLE LAUNCHED HOTEL booking through AI Mode in Search, allowing travelers to book stays in a chat. It also added flight price tracking and lets travelers view flight and hotel costs in points or miles.

Google announced the updates in an Aug. 27 blog post. Users can describe a trip to get hotels with photos, rates and reviews, then select "Continue on Google" to choose a room and pay with Google Pay. The hotel or booking site remains the merchant of record and handles post-checkout customer service.

Partners joining the hotel booking rollout include Choice Hotels International, Hilton, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline and Trip.com.

“Travel discovery is evolving rapidly, and Choice Hotels is actively shaping what comes next,” said Anna Scozzafava, Choice chief data, AI and technology officer. “By working with Google as an early partner for hotel booking through AI Mode in Search, we're helping make it easier for travelers to find the right Choice hotel for their trip while positioning our franchisees to compete and win in the age of agentic commerce.”

Choice is also part of the points and miles rollout. Google said hotel booking will expand to more partners and markets in the coming weeks.

Flight price tracking uses data from more than 300 airlines and travel sites. Users can ask AI Mode to track a route and get an email when prices change. The feature is available in more than 180 countries and territories, excluding the European Economic Area.

The points and miles tool covers flights and hotels, showing the points or miles needed for a trip based on partner program data. Initial support includes Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice, Hilton and Wyndham.

Google plans to add Accor SE, Flying Blue, Hyatt Hotels Corp., LATAM Airlines and Lufthansa Group in the coming weeks. That feature is available globally, though some options are limited in the European Economic Area.

The tech giant said the launch is part of a push to make AI Mode a booking platform. Users can compare flights and hotels, build itineraries and complete bookings without leaving the chat.

The rollout comes as more travelers use AI tools to plan trips, and as governments and travel companies build their own AI links. India's tourism ministry signed a deal with Google India in July to promote the country's destinations through AI.
