LE MERIDIEN HOTEL & Resorts, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of more than 30 brands, has opened Le Méridien Surat, its debut in the city and second in Gujarat. The 185-key hotel is located on the Tapi River.

It is near Surat International Airport, Marriott said in a statement. Also close are Surat Fort, Dumas Beach Front, Chauta Bazaar and textile markets along Ring Road. Gaurav Path and Khaudra Gali offer evening food experiences.

“India continues to be an important growth market and the debut of Le Méridien in Surat reflects an expansion opportunity for the brand in a high-potential urban centre,” said Kiran Andicot, Marriott’s senior vice president, South Asia. “With its heritage in craftsmanship, food culture and position as a regional hub, Surat aligns with the brand’s commitment to helping guests discover destinations through a creative lens.”

In September, Andicot joined Marriott International, overseeing operations and development across the region.

The hotel has 100,000 square feet of event space, including two pillarless ballrooms (Ruby and Emerald) and outdoor lawns, according to the statement. Facilities include a swimming pool and fitness centre. Under the Unlock Art programme, Le Méridien Surat offers guests complimentary access to Surat Fort.

The Fern Hotels & Resorts recently signed a new property, Desert Inn Beacon, in the Greater Rann of Kutch near Bhuj, Gujarat. It now has 37 operational and upcoming properties in the state.
