- Tamara plans 40 properties by 2030.
- Pipeline includes $62.5 million in projects.
- Expansion covers six hospitality formats.
The pipeline covers six hospitality formats focused on wildlife, faith, Ayurveda, Himalayan leisure, business and city travel. The projects will take the company into destinations including Kaziranga, Bodh Gaya and Kufri, in addition to its existing markets, TLE said in a statement.
“India’s hospitality opportunity is not concentrated in one kind of destination or traveller, said Samir MC, TLE CEO. “Quiet luxury, spiritual travel and experiential stays are growing and our ambition is to respond to these needs through a balanced owned and asset-light model, supported by technology and AI-led guest intelligence.”
A broader travel mix
Faith tourism is an important part of India’s domestic travel market, accounting for 60 percent of domestic travel. Pilgrimage destinations, however, account for about 6 percent of the country's branded hotel keys, leaving a gap between travel demand and branded hotel supply.
Meanwhile, Grand View Research projects India’s wellness tourism market to reach $116.3 billion by 2035, with annual growth of 15.3 percent. The luxury travel market generated $79.7 billion in revenue in 2025 and is projected to reach $179.7 billion by 2033, growing at 10.8 percent annually from 2026 to 2033, while the MICE market is expected to grow from $49.4 billion in 2024 to $103.7 billion by 2030, at a 13.2 percent annual rate.
TLE’s expansion covers several of these segments. Rae by Tamara operates in Guruvayoor and Kumbakonam, with an 80-key property planned in Velankanni. Asset-light projects are planned in Tirupati, Tiruvannamalai and Palani, while a 120-
key property is planned in Bodh Gaya. Varanasi, Amritsar and Ajmer are also under consideration.
The company’s wellness portfolio is anchored by Amal Tamara, its NABH-accredited Ayurveda hospital and retreat in Alleppey. TLE plans a 24-houseboat luxury resort in Alleppey and a 50-key farm resort in Hosur, while extending its Ayurveda expertise in its resort brands.
For wildlife and experiential travel, TLE plans to retain ownership of its properties. Its expansion includes a planned resort in Kaziranga, while its Himalayan leisure portfolio includes a planned resort in Kufri.
The business and MICE portfolio includes O by Tamara and Lilac. A 200-key O by Tamara is under development in Whitefield, Bengaluru, while a 125-key and a 60-key Lilac are planned in Kannur, along with a wedding and events venue in Madurai. It also plans to expand O by Tamara and Lilac in more than 100 Indian cities.
In February, TLE outlined its move into asset-light expansion, with Kufri set to become its first management-contract property.
