INDIA’S HOTEL MARKET is growing, but independent management remains a challenge. NILE Hospitality is helping owners run hotels and expand global brands in the country.

Vikram Singh Chauhan, founder and CEO of NILE, shares with Asian Hospitality how the company is building trust with hotel owners, working with global brands and growing its presence in India.

Founded in 2018, NILE has signed more than 50 hotels in 37 cities across 20 states. Twenty-five hotels are open, with around 2,500 keys, while more than 25 are in the pipeline, representing another 2,500 to 3,000 keys.

Winning owners’ trust

Chauhan started NILE after spotting a gap. India drew plenty of hotel investment, but few independent operators had the skills to run global-brand hotels well. Many owners were used to managing their properties themselves or working directly with international brands, so a new management company had to prove itself first.

That made trust the main hurdle. Third-party management was not a widely used model in India, and owners needed evidence that an Indian company could deliver results.

“We had to demonstrate that a homegrown management company could deliver professional expertise, strong commercial performance and long-term asset value,” he said.

The company works with owners through the full hotel lifecycle. That starts with development advice and pre-opening support and runs through daily operations. Revenue management, sales, e-commerce, marketing, finance and human resources sit under the same roof. Chauhan also treats repeat projects from owners as a measure of confidence in the company.

Choosing brands for the right market

NILE works with 26 global and owner-built brands. The choice depends on the market opportunity and the owner’s investment goals. Each brand serves its own customers, with its own pricing, product and guest experience, which helps when two brands operate in the same city.

“Two hotels may serve the same destination, but they should not necessarily compete for the same customer,” Chauhan said.

Owners usually fund the real estate, while NILE manages the hotel and its operations. The company also holds master-franchise rights for Hampton by Hilton, Park Inn & Suites by Radisson and Microtel by Wyndham. Under these agreements, NILE supports the brands’ growth in India. It works with owners to assess opportunities and meet brand standards.

Each project involves a market assessment, an investment review and agreement on what the owner wants from the hotel. It also reviews each hotel’s financial performance and long-term sustainability with its owner.

A central team supports hotel operations

NILE keeps most support functions in-house. These include hotel management, finance and accounting, technical services, brand compliance, human resources and training. Sales, marketing, revenue management, design and property development are covered as well. The company also handles F&B concepts and menu design.

The company employs nearly 3,500 people across its corporate and hotel operations. Its core team includes professionals from Oberoi, Marriott, Hyatt and Radisson. Central teams work directly with each hotel’s general manager on revenue, sales and marketing, finance, human resources and operations.

Every hotel has its own market, team and demand pattern. It uses common systems but adapts its support to each property. Chauhan named scale as one of the biggest challenges, since the company has to keep the quality of execution steady while it expands.

Global partners and the road to 100

Agreements with global brands give the company’s hotels access to distribution systems, loyalty programs and brand recognition. Current and upcoming openings include Radisson Chail, Novotel Bhilwara, Novotel Nagpur, Hampton by Hilton Amritsar Heritage Street and several Park Inn & Suites by Radisson hotels.

The company signed seven Hampton by Hilton hotels, including projects in Amritsar, Vrindavan, Raipur, Lonavala and Navi Mumbai Airport. Its Marriott pipeline includes Courtyard Dibrugarh, expected to go live soon, and Courtyard Somnath. Novotel Bhilwara Resort & Spa is expected to open in November and will be NILE’s first Accor hotel.

Chauhan described NILE’s role as a link between global brand requirements and local markets. That work covers local market research, owner relationships and technology-led support for revenue, sales, marketing, digital distribution and operations.

The company aims to reach 100 hotels by 2030. Growth is expected to come from major cities, emerging markets, airport and infrastructure corridors, and leisure and pilgrimage destinations. NILE is looking at business hotels, upscale and midscale properties, resorts and lifestyle-led hotels. Moving signed projects into operation on time will matter as much as signing them, since only 25 of the 50-plus signed hotels are open today.

The company holds no ownership stakes in hotels at present. Chauhan said the company is open to selective investments where there is a strategic fit and long-term potential.

“For us, the milestone is not simply reaching 100 hotels, but to build a homegrown hospitality management company that remains a significant part of India’s hospitality story for decades to come,” said Chauhan.
