The 50-key Cloud 7 Hotel The Forest Shimla opened in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. It marks Kerten Hospitality’s entry into the Indian market.

A phased expansion will add wellbeing suites, a destination spa, a swimming pool, a gym, two private cottages and nine additional luxury suites, PTI reported. The group plans to develop 1,000 keys across its Cloud 7, hosme and The House Hotel brands in India.

“The country offers significant potential for experience-led, lifestyle hospitality,” said Marloes Knippenberg, Kerten CEO. “With an initial target of 1,000 keys, Shimla is an important step in creating a diverse portfolio of destinations that connect guests with local communities, culture and place.”

Ireland-based Kerten is led by Knippenberg. The company manages 12 brands, including Cloud 7 Hotel and Residence, The House Hotel and Residence and Ouspace and has a pipeline of more than 60 projects across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Eurasia.

Separately, Hilton opened the 226-key The Den Bengaluru, LXR Hotels & Resorts, in Whitefield, Bengaluru, marking the brand’s debut in India.
