- Delhi hotels see higher BRICS rates.
- Hotels see limited room supply.
- RHG sees 25 percent higher room rates.
The Leela Palace New Delhi was not accepting bookings for the specified dates, according to PTI. Available rooms at ITC Maurya and Shangri-La Eros New Delhi were priced at exceptionally high rates for the Sept. 12 to 13 summit.
“September is showing stronger demand, with average room rates in our portfolio more than 25 percent higher year-on-year,” Nikhil Sharma, RHG’s managing director and chief operating officer for South Asia told PTI. “The BRICS Summit is adding to demand around the event, while shorter booking windows are also supporting rates.”
The two-day summit is driving demand over several days as delegates and visitors arrive early and extend their stays, putting pressure on hotel rooms in central Delhi. Tourists, business travelers and families may face higher rates and could need to stay farther from central Delhi, change their travel dates or choose lower-priced hotels.
Large international and domestic events are important for the luxury hotel segment, as they drive demand for rooms, meeting spaces and other hotel services. The summit is adding to hotel demand in Delhi, especially at luxury properties in key business and diplomatic areas. Rates and room availability can change quickly with bookings and cancellations, so current prices may not remain the same.
Sharma said hotel demand is expected to stay strong as the summit nears, with more travelers likely to book closer to the event dates.
Separately, BRICS tourism ministers adopted the Jaipur Declaration on Aug. 21 to strengthen tourism cooperation among member countries.
