Summary:
- Anand to lead Marriott International in U.S., Canada & CALA from March 28.
- He succeeds Liam Brown, retiring in June.
- Anand began his Marriott career in 1988 as a night auditor at the Vienna Marriott Hotel.
SATYA ANAND WILL become Marriott International’s group president for the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean and Latin America on March 28, succeeding Liam Brown. He will oversee the four markets under a single structure to improve alignment and collaboration across the hemisphere.
Anand, a 37-year Marriott veteran, began his career in 1988 as a night auditor at the Vienna Marriott Hotel, Marriott said in a statement. He has held roles in operations, finance and design, including cluster general manager for Renaissance Hotels in Vienna, area vice president for Western & Central Europe, chief financial officer for Europe, chief operating officer for Luxury & Southern Europe and global design EMEA. Since 2020, he has been president of EMEA, expanding the region’s portfolio to more than 1,300 properties.
He will relocate to the U.S. and be based at Marriott’s global headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.
In the third quarter, Marriott’s RevPAR in the U.S. and Canada declined 0.4 percent year over year, reflecting weaker demand in lower-tier hotels, mainly from reduced government travel.
Leadership transitions
Brown, group president for U.S. and Canada and Brian King, president of enterprise transformation and CALA, will step down in March and retire in June.
"Liam and Brian are extraordinary leaders whose impact on Marriott and our people cannot be overstated," said Anthony Capuano, Marriott's president and CEO. "They have guided our company through pivotal moments with vision, integrity and a deep commitment to our associates, guests, and owners. While we will miss Liam and Brian, we are grateful for their decades of service and the lasting legacy they leave behind."
Neal Jones, currently COO for Europe and Africa and global leader of Design Hotels, will become president of EMEA, while Federico “Fede” Greppi, currently COO for CALA, will become president of that region. Jones will join Anand on Marriott’s executive leadership team, reporting to Capuano, while Greppi will report to Anand.
Anand, Jones and Greppi will assume their new roles on March 28. Brown and King will remain in advisory roles through June to ensure a smooth transition.
On Dec. 30, Donna Rae Garff Marriott, wife of former Marriott International CEO J.W. “Bill” Marriott Jr., died at 90.
