INDIA WILL HOST the 2027 Global Summit of the World Travel & Tourism Council in Delhi, the council announced Oct. 9 during its summit in Malta. India was selected from 22 destinations that expressed interest in hosting the event.
WTTC did not announce dates or a venue for the 2027 summit.
The council represents the private sector of the global travel and tourism industry. Its members include hotels, airlines, airports, cruise lines, tour operators, technology platforms and destinations. It said the event will bring together tourism executives, government leaders and investors.
India’s Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat took part in discussions at the Malta summit. WTTC gave him its Global Champion Award for his leadership and contribution to travel and tourism.
“We are delighted to bring the world’s most important Travel & Tourism event to India in 2027, chosen from among 22 destinations,” said Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, WTTC chairman. “Delhi will provide the perfect stage for global leaders to come together, drive collaboration, and continue shaping the future of the sector.”
WTTC President and CEO Gloria Guevara said India’s scale, ambition and growing global connectivity make it a natural host.
“This will be an opportunity to showcase the country to our global membership, strengthen public-private partnerships and look at how India can capture even more of the international demand that is driving the next chapter of global travel and tourism,” she said.
Travel and tourism contributed $263.6 billion to India’s economy in 2025, up 7.3 percent, according to WTTC’s latest Economic Impact Research. The sector supported 46.2 million jobs, which WTTC says is more than one in 10 jobs in the country.
The council forecasts the sector’s contribution will grow 8.5 percent in 2026 to $286.1 billion, supporting 48.1 million jobs. It projects the contribution will reach $527 billion by 2036, nearly double its 2026 size.
WTTC expects India to rise from the world’s 10th-largest travel and tourism economy to fourth by that year.
Guevara said that the event will help strengthen public-private partnerships and show how India can win more international demand.
