- It is the company’s eighth Himalayan property.
- The company recently rebranded and plans to add 100 properties by 2030.
MOUSTACHE GROUP OF Hotels launched Moustache Select McLeodGanj in Upper Bhagsu, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. It already operates seven mountain stays across the Himalayan region.
Jaipur-headquartered Moustache Group of Hotels, founded in 2016, is led by co-founders and directors Abhishek Khandelwal and Deepak Agarwal. The brand began as a backpacker hostel chain and has since expanded into Moustache Hostels, Moustache Select and Luxuria by Moustache.
The Dharamshala property, under the brand’s Select vertical, is located at 2,100 metres in the Dhauladhar range, minutes from McLeodGanj market, with a hillside setting, the company said. McLeodGanj, known as “Little Lhasa,” is home to the Dalai Lama, making it a spiritual and cultural center. The region continues to see high visitation.
“McLeodGanj has always been one of North India’s most consistent travel markets,” said Khandelwal. “It attracts spiritual travellers, trekkers, families and long-stay guests alike. Upper Bhagsu offered the right mix of accessibility and mountain views, aligning with the Select positioning.”
In February, Jaipur-headquartered Moustache announced its rebranding and plans to add 100 properties by 2030. It currently operates 20 hostels, 10 midmarket hotels and 8 boutique luxury stays. The group continues to expand in Himachal Pradesh as part of its multi-city plan.
Agarwal, Moustache’s co-founder and director, said Select is a growth driver.
“Properties like McLeodGanj help us cater to travellers who want better amenities without moving into ultra-luxury pricing,” he said. “We see steady year-round demand, given trekking routes like Triund, proximity to Bhagsunag Waterfall, and cultural appeal.”
Himachal Pradesh recorded 1.80 crore domestic tourists and 83,000 foreign visitors in 2024, the statement said, citing data from the India Brand Equity Foundation. April to June is the peak season, driven by weather and summer travel demand. With demand rising, the group added the property. It offers rooms with valley views and co-working spaces.
Separately, Sterling Holiday Resorts recently opened the 23-key Valley of Pine in Lansdowne, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.
