Malik named Magnuson CEO, founder Thomas Magnuson stepping away

ADNAN MALIK HAS been named the new CEO of Magnuson Hotels, moving from his prior role as chief revenue officer. Company co-founder Thomas Magnuson, who held the position of CEO for 21 years, is stepping away, while co-founder Melissa Magnuson, the current chairman of the company, will continue in her role, Magnuson said in a statement.

“It has been an incredible journey leading Magnuson Hotels for the past 21 years,” said Thomas Magnuson. “I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together as a team. As I step down from the CEO position, I’m filled with gratitude for the experiences, challenges and growth we’ve embraced, and for the people I have met along this path. I am confident in the talented individuals who will continue to drive Magnuson Hotels towards even greater success.”

During his time as CEO, Thomas Magnuson spurred a global fair franchising movement, leading to ongoing legislation in the U.S. to protect hotel owners, the company said. Malik said that he is honored and excited to lead Magnuson Hotels into its next phase.

“Under Thomas’s exceptional leadership, the brand has flourished, and I am committed to building upon this strong foundation by driving innovation. We will continue our commitment to deliver results for hotel owners and exceed expectations of hotel guests,” Malik said.

Malik assumed the role of portfolio revenue manager with Magnuson in 2018, following assignments in London at Guoman Hotels, Wyndham Grand Chelsea Harbour, Doyle Collection, Royal Thames Yacht Club and Strand Palace Hotel, Dorsett.

“We all take tremendous pride in what Magnuson Hotels has achieved under Thomas’s CEO tenure,” Melissa Magnuson said. “With Adnan’s appointment, we are confident in his ability to lead the company towards continued growth and success, maintaining our commitment to excellence.”

Founded in 2003, Magnuson Hotels presently manages a portfolio of more than 2000 hotels across North America and Europe under the Magnuson Independent Hotel Group and Magnuson Hotels Fair Franchise Brand.

In February, Magnuson expanded its Magnuson Independent Collection with the addition of Studios & Suites 4 Less Charlotte in North Carolina. This marked the sixth hotel joined by owner Ray Patel in the Independent Collection.
