THE INDIAN SCHOOL of Hospitality recently hosted nearly 200 school and professional counsellors at its Gurugram campus for the seventh “Counsellors’ Retreat.” The event highlighted hospitality as a multidisciplinary field spanning culture, business, behavior, design, food studies and leadership.
The retreat included workshops, conversations and sessions that gave counsellors a direct view of ISH’s academic approach to hospitality and culinary arts, The Economic Times reported. Faculty outlined their teaching frameworks, students described their learning paths and alumni discussed careers across hotels, restaurants, consumer brands, technology platforms and service-led businesses.
“India’s consumer economy grows on talent that understands people, behavior and service excellence,” said Kunal Vasudeva, ISH’s co-founder and managing director. “Hospitality education prepares students for this future. Liberal hospitality builds interdisciplinary thinkers who analyze situations, solve problems and work with confidence. Our curriculum brings academic depth, work attachments and structured rigor. Students learn to engage with complex environments and create value for businesses operating in a fast-growing service landscape.”
The program helped counsellors guide students through a changing career landscape shaped by new industries and opportunities, according to The Times. This year’s edition marked a moment for hospitality education in India, with nearly 125 counsellors participating, signaling a shift in how families and schools view hospitality and culinary arts.
“Our guests experienced the ISH way of life through our students, classrooms, conversations and campus energy,” ISH posted on LinkedIn. “They took part in workshops on ‘Design Thinking for Problem Solving,’ joined Conversations of Impact with CHROs from Accor, ITC Hotels and MakeMyTrip and met with alumni and faculty.”
The Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council and The Lalit Suri Hospitality School recently signed a memorandum of understanding to expand and enhance hospitality training in India.
