CRAIG SULLIVAN, FOUNDER of the California Lodging Investment Conference, launched CLIC Media, a platform providing interview programs and content on the hospitality industry. It released the first episodes of Continental Lodging Investment Conversations & Connections (CLIC Connect), an interview series on the hotel industry.

The initial episodes featured Sarah Howard, CEO of Edenburg Hospitality and Rachel Humphrey, founder and chair of the Women in Hospitality Leadership Alliance, the company said in a statement. Suzanne Markham Bagnera is named director and producer of its new show.

“With the launch of CLIC Media, we are taking the same focus we applied to the California hospitality market and expanding it nationally,” Sullivan said. “More than at any other time in my 30 years in the hotel industry, there is a need for information that comes directly from the source. During my tenure, I have worked with many of the industry’s leading figures and I look forward to using those relationships to provide insights into what is happening across the industry.”

Sullivan has built a media presence on hotel investment, the statement said. He co-hosted and co-produced Check Out California on OCTalkRadio and relaunched it in 2019 as a video series covering hotels, restaurants, sports and entertainment venues in California.

Bagnera will direct and produce all shows for the platform and said she looks forward to it.

“The show is already off to a strong start and the upcoming schedule looks promising as we wrap up 2025 and head into the new year,” she said.

Bagnera is an assistant professor at Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, where she leads lodging instruction and serves as program director of Hospitality Executive Education.

The eighth California Lodging Investment Conference was held March 5–6 in Long Beach, California.

Report: Labor costs tighten U.S. hotel margins

Summary:

  • U.S. hotel margins tighten as demand slows and labor costs remain high, HotStats reported.
  • Unionized hotels carry 43 percent labor costs, versus 33.5 percent at non-union properties.
  • U.S. sees falling group demand and lower profit conversion since the second quarter.

THE U.S. HOTEL industry is showing signs of strain after a strong start to 2025, according to HotStats. Revenue growth is slowing, occupancy is falling and profit margins are tightening, particularly at unionized properties where labor constraints affect performance.

HotStats’ recent blog post revealed that TRevPAR has barely kept pace with labor costs in the first eight months of the year. While TRevPOR remains positive, gains are offset by declining occupancy, a sign that demand is cooling.
