BWH HOTEL GROUP is working with sustainability certification organization Green Key Global to enhance its sustainability initiatives and implement a standardized program across the U.S. and Canada. The program aims to enhance the company’s environmental performance, reduce carbon footprint and improve guest comfort and satisfaction, according to a joint statement by the companies.
As part of the partnership, BWH Hotels in the U.S. and Canada gain access to Green Key Global's sustainability certification program, the joint statement said. That includes a list of green certified vendors, an “Eco-Rating” program and guidance on hosting sustainable meetings, according to the Green Key website.
"We are delighted to partner with Green Key Global to enhance sustainability standards across our properties," said Michael Morton, vice president of brand management at BWH Hotels. "As a trusted organization, Green Key Global aligns with our commitment to sustainability, and this partnership will reinforce our dedication to providing guests with an environmentally responsible hotel experience."
The Green Key Eco-Rating Program, recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, is a graduated rating system that includes guidance on reductions in utility consumption, waste, emissions and operating costs. Additional recommendations include employee training, staff and customer engagement, supply chain management and community involvement.
The Green Key Meetings Program is an assessment tool for lodging and event facilities that host meetings of any size. It is consistent with ASTM/APEX green meeting standards, which focus on sustainability and environmental performance at the facility level, and was developed in collaboration with Meeting Professionals International.
"BWH Hotels have showcased a commitment to sustainability efforts both as a brand and across their hotel portfolio," said Rebecca Bartlett Jones, director of Green Key Global. "Collaborating with Green Key Global will bolster their initiatives and offer credible recognition for their sustainability practices."
In September, Larry Cuculic, president and CEO of Best Western Hotels & Resorts, inaugurated the company's 2023 Annual Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii, highlighting the "Big Wave" of successful practices over the past year. The company's prudent budgeting for an anticipated recession led to continued growth domestically and internationally, with India a key focus, according to the company.

HILTON WORLDWIDE HOLDINGS reached 9,000 hotels worldwide with the opening of Signia by Hilton La Cantera Resort & Spa in San Antonio, Texas, averaging nearly three openings per day since passing 8,000 a year ago. The property adds the Signia brand to Hilton’s portfolio in Texas and includes 496 rooms, 34 villas and an adults-only floor.
The company has more than 3,600 hotels under development globally and aims to expand tenfold in India, Hilton said in a statement. It also passed key milestones, including 6,000 hotels in the U.S.
“Much like we make a promise to our guests to deliver reliable and friendly stays, we are committed to being owners’ partner of choice,” said Christian Charnaux, Hilton’s executive vice president and chief development officer. “Reaching this milestone of 9,000 hotels is a testament to that commitment. Our brands consistently deliver performance for our owners, which enables us to deploy our brands—both existing and new—into markets around the world every day. With just 5 percent of the existing share of global rooms and 21 percent of rooms under construction, Hilton has an opportunity to grow our portfolio well beyond 9,000 hotels.”
Hilton now operates more than 1,000 luxury and lifestyle hotels worldwide and has signed more than 200 more this year, the statement said. The company reported 7.5 percent net unit growth in the second quarter of 2025, while systemwide RevPAR fell 0.5 percent year over year.
