THE AMERICAN HOTEL & Lodging Association and Hospitality Technology Next Generation announced Hotel Shield as the winner of the 2026 AHLA/HTNG TechOvation Award on Nov. 4. The award, now in its 11th year, recognizes technology solutions that address the hospitality industry’s needs and the people and companies behind them.

According to AHLA, Hotel Shield’s security platform uses real-time AI vision to help hotels combat human trafficking by matching individuals against watchlists. The system sends alerts to on-site staff and corporate security teams. It also supports alert response, case management, incident resolution and investigations with partners.

“Hotels are continually seeking technology solutions that help teams operate more efficiently, enhance the guest experience, and drive business performance,” said Rosanna Maietta, AHLA president and CEO. “Preventing human trafficking is a critically important priority for our industry, and we’re especially excited to see Hotel Shield recognized for its innovative work and commitment to helping combat this issue.”

Kevin Clough, Hotel Shield president, said the award validates the strength of the company’s technology and the impact it has every day.

“The hospitality industry has a unique opportunity to help prevent human trafficking, and Hotel Shield exists to give hotels the technology to do exactly that,” he said.

Hotelier judges from the AHLA/HTNG Global Technology 100 reviewed submissions and selected nine semifinalists. Each semifinalist presented at The Hospitality Show, where judges scored the presentations and the audience voted live among three finalists to choose the winner.

The other semifinalists were Agilysys Intelligent Guest Profile by Agilysys; AI Upselling by Canary Technologies; Bridge App by dailypoint, from Toedt, Dr. Selk & Coll. GmbH; Lead Shark by Jacaruso Enterprises; Engage by Alliants; Nexity by Towne; Optylink: Scout Intelligence by Optylink; and Instant Quote by MeetingPackage.

AHLA and HTNG also launched an international edition of the award this year at HTNG Connect: EMEA in Edinburgh, Scotland. HPE won the first EMEA award for its HPE Networking Wi-Fi 7 Hospitality Access Points & Self-Driving Networks. AHLA said the products give hotels flexibility to upgrade connectivity and move toward AI-powered, self-driving network operations that detect issues earlier, reduce manual work and keep guest-facing services running.

HTNG, part of AHLA, connects hospitality companies, technology providers, consultants, media and academic experts to promote innovation and collaboration. AHLA, based in Washington, D.C., represents more than 30,000 members, including 80 percent of franchised hotels and the 16 largest U.S. hotel companies.

Separately, Nilesh “Neil” Patel, general manager of Best Western Opp Inn in Opp, Alabama, won AHLA’s 2026 Select-Service General Manager of the Year award. The association honored Patel and seven other hotel leaders Nov. 3 at The Hospitality Show in Miami Beach, Florida.
