UN TOURISM LAUNCHED a hospitality course on WhatsApp aimed at professionals, entrepreneurs and SMEs in tourism and hospitality. It focuses on business management, customer service, digital marketing, customer loyalty, sustainability and local products and experiences.
Delivered in partnership with Fundación Mahou San Miguel, the program draws on the organization’s experience in Spain’s HoReCa sector, UN Tourism said in a statement. The course, delivered via WhatsApp, is designed for users with limited time or a preference for mobile-based training.
“Innovation in education is essential to address the challenges facing tourism today,” said Shaikha Al Nuwais, UN Tourism’s secretary-general. “We see this as a game changer for skills development across the sector. By delivering practical, accessible training through a tool used daily by millions, it enables immediate, applicable learning that strengthens local ecosystems and enhances the visitor experience.”
Participants who complete all modules will receive a joint certificate from UN Tourism and Fundación Mahou San Miguel, the statement said. An initial 2,000 fully subsidized spots are available to residents of Spain.
In November, Anita Mendiratta, former special advisor to the United Nations tourism secretary-general, said India should use technology and digital storytelling as travelers increasingly rely on them to plan their trips. She said technology could also help address concerns such as cleanliness, health and mobility.
