Phil Hugh is assuming the role of chief development officer at Sonesta International Hotels Corp., succeeding Brian Quinn. He will focus on expanding Sonesta’s portfolio of brands across the Americas.

Hugh joined Sonesta in March 2023 as senior vice president and head of luxury and lifestyle development, the company said in a statement.

“Phil will build upon our foundation and bring his vision to the future of development at Sonesta,” said Keith Pierce, Sonesta’s executive vice president and president of franchise and development. “The Americas will remain our primary focus, with significant expansion across our portfolio of brands.”

Quinn joined Sonesta in March 2021 after its acquisition of Red Lion Hotels Corp., the statement said. During his tenure, he led franchise development across the Sonesta and Red Lion brands, restructured Sonesta’s franchising platform, established internal systems and built the team to support growth.

Pierce said Quinn’s work with the team in 2021 led to the opening of more than 80 hotels organically, with no initial pipeline, achieving positive net unit growth.

“His continued efforts have positioned Sonesta for success with a strong organic growth strategy,” Pierce said.

In Asian Hospitality’s Leadership Series in May last year, Quinn discussed the company’s growth and future plans ahead of its inaugural global owners’ conference in Las Vegas.
