AHMEDABAD-BASED NIRMA GROUP is planning to develop a 555-room 5-star hotel to be developed along the Sarkhej–Gandhinagar Highway in Ahmedabad. The hotel is expected to be operational ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Nirma is in talks with several hotel operators, including Indian Hotels Co. Ltd., Hyatt Hotels Corp. and Marriott International, though no agreement has been finalised, the Economic Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The group, which operates in detergents, soaps, soda ash, caustic soda, cement and healthcare, has reportedly applied for environmental clearance to develop a five-star hotel in the upper-upscale segment.

Industry executives said the move comes as Ahmedabad’s hospitality market evolves.

Over the past 18 to 24 months, the city has emerged as an active hotel investment destination in western India, supported by industrial expansion and institutional demand, according to the report.

“The depth of demand we are seeing today is very different from what it was even a few years ago,” Nandivardhan Jain, Noesis founder and chief executive, was quoted as saying.

India is also set to launch its first bullet train in August 2027 on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, marking the start of high-speed rail travel in the country.
