More than a million people used OYO Rooms on New Year's Eve

More than a million people used OYO Rooms on New Year's Eve

MORE THAN ONE million people used OYO Rooms worldwide on New Year's Eve, a 58 percent increase compared to 2023. Furthermore, approximately 768 guests checked in every minute globally during the same period.

Beyond the booking surge, OYO is expanding globally, opening a hotel every 2-3 days, according to the company.

“The New Year is off to an incredible start, with over 1.1 million travellers staying with us worldwide this NYE—marking a 58 percent increase from 2023, with the addition of Motel 6 and Studio 6 to our family,” wrote Ritesh Agarwal, OYO’s CEO, in a post on X. “It’s clear the world is ready to celebrate, and we’re proud to be part of this exciting journey.”

In another post, Agarwal shared that 470,088 people are on OYO platforms today.

“Our users are certified night owls, with a 41 percent traffic spike at 2 a.m.! Today, 768 guests will check in every minute worldwide,” he said.

Earlier this month, Agarwal said that post-COVID, people are eager to enjoy life, leading to 100 percent year-on-year growth in the hotel industry.

OYO's booking growth was reflected in its financial performance, with a net profit of $16 million or Rs 132 crore in the first quarter of 2025 fiscal, a sharp turnaround from a $13.1 million or Rs 108 crore loss in the same period last year. This improvement follows OYO’s $525 million acquisition of G6 Hospitality, the parent company of Motel 6 and Studio 6, aimed at boosting its presence in the US market.

The G6 Hospitality acquisition is expected to significantly impact OYO's earnings, Economic Times reported.

Ankit Tandon, OYO's global chief business officer, said that integrating Motel 6 is expected to boost the company’s EBITDA to more than $242.4 million, or Rs 2,000 crore, by fiscal year 2026.

“Our success in Europe, where we nearly tripled EBITDA through strategic synergies for our vacation homes business, has given us a clear roadmap for value creation,” Tandon was quoted as saying in the report.

Agarwal previously noted that around 100,000 customers book hotels through OYO daily in India, with a similar number overseas.

“With a strong financial foundation and sustained demand, OYO is poised for further growth in 2025 and beyond,” he said.

As OYO expands globally, its commitment to diverse travel experiences—from hill stations to spiritual sites—reflects evolving traveler preferences. OYO’s annual “Travelopedia 2024” report revealed that Hyderabad topped the list of most-booked Indian cities for 2024, while Puri, Varanasi, and Haridwar led as top religious tourism centers, attracting large numbers of pilgrims.
