MINOR HOTELS, PART of Bangkok-based Minor International PLC, will debut The Wolseley Hotels with its first property opening in New York City in early 2027. The Wolseley Hotel New York will be the brand’s flagship.
New York-based developer Ben-Josef Group Holdings is the owner and developer of the 76-key hotel, Minor said in a statement. The project near Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan will replace The Chatwal New York, part of Unbound Collection by Hyatt.
The building was built in 1905 as the clubhouse for The Lambs Club and designed by McKim, Mead & White. Ben-Josef Group acquired the ground lease in October, according to Commercial Observer.
“The launch of The Wolseley Hotels marks an exciting new chapter for Minor Hotels,” said Dillip Rajakarier, Minor International’s group CEO. “Inspired by the enduring success of The Wolseley in London, our vision is to create hotels anchored in culinary excellence, architectural character and a genuine sense of occasion. The Wolseley Hotel New York establishes our first flagship and sets the standard for the brand’s global expansion.”
The hotel marks Minor Hotels’ entry into the U.S. market and will anchor expansion, with properties planned in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East, the statement said.
Aviv Laurence, CEO of BJGH and owner of the hotel, said introducing The Wolseley restaurant and bar to the U.S. through the New York property is a defining moment.
“Together with Minor Hotels, we are creating a destination that celebrates heritage, hospitality and the enduring appeal of classic European luxury,” he said.
Minor International, which operates Minor Hotels and brands including Anantara Hotels & Resorts, Avani Hotels & Resorts, NH Hotels and NH Collection, plans to open 50 hotels over the next decade. It entered India in February with an Anantara property in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
