HERSHA HOTELS & RESORTS, a KSL portfolio company, acquired the 16-story, 403-key Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa in Savannah, Georgia, from Brookfield Properties. JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group brokered the deal.
Brookfield completed an $8 million renovation in 2023, JLL said in a statement. The 1999-built property sits on 299 acres on Hutchinson Island, adjacent to the Savannah Convention Center and near the Savannah Historic District, the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, and Forsyth Park.
The property has more than 51,800 square feet of meeting space, an 18-hole golf course, a 17-room spa, a river-view pool and facilities for tennis, pickleball and disc golf, JLL said.
Philadelphia-based Hersha, founded in 1984 by Hasu Shah, was acquired by KSL Capital Partners for $1.4 billion in 2023, making it privately owned. Jay Shah is senior advisor and Neil Shah remains president and CEO.
Brookfield Properties is the global platform that develops and manages real estate investments for Brookfield Asset Management, led by CEO Lowell Baron.
JLL has sold this Westin asset three times in 10 years. The team was led by Senior Managing Director Andrew Dickey, Senior Director Maciej Polek and Vice President Derek Hayden.
“Savannah continues to demonstrate momentum as both a leisure destination and corporate market,” said Dickey. “The Westin’s location next to the expanded convention center, along with being the only resort in the market with land positioned to benefit from residential growth in Savannah Harbor, creates a value proposition that sets it apart from traditional urban hotels.”
Separately, Hersha recently sold The Boxer Boston, an 80-room hotel in Boston’s West End, to Eurostars Hotels, part of Spain’s Grupo Hotusa, for $23.6 million.
