U.S. leads with 6,146 projects and 720,089 rooms

THE GLOBAL HOTEL construction pipeline reached 15,922 projects and 2,437,354 rooms, up 1 percent year over year, according to Lodging Econometrics. The U.S. leads with 6,146 projects and 720,089 rooms, followed by China with 3,608 projects and 644,938 rooms.

LE’s “Q4 2025 Global Hotel Construction Pipeline Trend Report” found 6,140 projects and 1,058,945 rooms under construction worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2025. Projects scheduled to start in the next 12 months totaled 3,845 projects and 553,140 rooms, up 3 percent in rooms year over year. Early planning totaled 5,937 projects and 825,269 rooms, up 4 percent in projects and 3 percent in rooms year over year.


The luxury segment totaled 1,328 projects and 252,544 rooms, up 8 percent in projects and 4 percent in rooms year over year. The upper-upscale chain scale totaled 1,883 projects and 391,391 rooms, up 9 percent in projects and 4 percent in rooms year over year. Upscale and upper-midscale combined totaled 8,358 projects and 1,227,133 rooms, up 1 percent in both projects and rooms year over year.

The U.S. accounts for 39 percent of the global pipeline and China 23 percent, for a combined 62 percent. India has 906 projects and 118,334 rooms, up 31 percent in projects and 35 percent in rooms year over year.

Dallas leads with 193 projects and 23,720 rooms, followed by Atlanta with 159 projects and 17,804 rooms. Chengdu ranks third with 136 projects and 24,216 rooms, followed by Guangzhou with 126 projects and 25,329 rooms. Phoenix rounds out the top five with 124 projects and 16,303 rooms.

In 2025, 2,371 hotels opened worldwide, totaling 325,985 rooms, LE report said.

It forecasts 2,617 hotels and 389,175 rooms to open in 2026, followed by 2,630 hotels and 384,955 rooms in 2027.

LE’s recent “Hotel Construction Pipeline Trend Report” found the U.S. closed the fourth quarter of 2025 with 6,146 projects and 720,089 rooms in the pipeline. Brand conversions totaled 1,497 projects and 148,981 rooms, up 12 percent in projects and 16 percent in rooms year over year.
