He spent a decade as chief of staff to U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, AHLA said in a statement.
"I am thrilled to welcome Brett to the AHLA team,” said Rosanna Maietta, AHLA president and CEO. “He is an experienced policy leader with deep political insight and a proven record of working at the highest levels of government, navigating Congress and the administration. Brett joins a team of federal, state and local government affairs professionals laser-focused on advancing policies that support the hotel industry. I am confident he will make an immediate and meaningful contribution.”
Horton joins AHLA’s advocacy leadership team with Chirag Shah, executive vice president and general counsel for policy, regulatory and legal; Troy Flanagan, executive vice president for external government affairs and industry relations; Marilou Halvorsen, senior vice president for state and local government affairs and industry relations and Matt Carrier, senior vice president for federal government affairs.
He said the hotel industry drives the economy, supporting millions of workers and thousands of small business owners worldwide.
"From my tenure on Capitol Hill, I know that AHLA is a premier advocacy organization with a best-in-class team of government affairs professionals,” he said. “I am honored to join them and work on behalf of this industry."
In May, more than 250 AHLA members met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to discuss key hospitality legislative priorities.
