Salamander D.C. Joins Preferred Hotels’ Legend Collection

Salamander Washington, D.C., a 373-room hotel on the city’s southwest waterfront, joined Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ Legend Collection following a property-wide renovation.

SALAMANDER WASHINGTON, D.C., located on the city’s southwest waterfront, joined Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ Legend Collection. The 373-room hotel recently completed a property-wide renovation that includes updated communal spaces, redesigned guest suites, a two-level Salamander Spa and Dōgon by Kwame Onwuachi.


Salamander Washington is part of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, led by founder and CEO Sheila Johnson. She topped Asian Hospitality’s Women of Color Power List 2025.

“We are honored that Salamander Washington, D.C. has been designated by Preferred Hotels & Resorts as a new member of its Legend Collection—joining a portfolio of properties in many of the world’s most remarkable destinations,” said Prem Devadas, Salamander Collection’s president. “This is our fourth property to be accepted into the Legend Collection, reflecting our commitment to delivering an exceptional guest experience—one that blends design, intuitive service, spa and culinary offerings with a deep connection to the culture and energy of Washington.”

Preferred Hotels & Resorts is the largest independent hotel brand, representing more than 600 hotels, resorts, residences and hotel groups in 80 countries.

Dan Coyle, executive vice president for the U.S. and Canada at Preferred Hotels & Resorts, said they have partnered with Salamander Collection for over 15 years.

“It’s been a pleasure to witness their continued growth and focus,” he said. “Adding Salamander Washington to our Legend Collection marks a milestone that reflects the property’s renewal and we’re pleased to see it join some of the world’s most distinguished hotels.”

In February, Salamander Collection appointed George Terpilowski as senior vice president, overseeing daily operations across its hotels and resorts.
