THE TOURISM & HOSPITALITY Skill Council conducted IndiaSkills 2026 regional competitions Feb. 2 to 14 at C V Raman Global University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The competition had 156 participants.
The two-week event covered five core hospitality skills: bakery, cooking, restaurant services, patisserie and confectionery and hotel reception, according to THSC.
The top three winners in each skill category from these regional rounds will enter an intensive training phase. This involves advanced training and two additional physical trials. Ultimately, one finalist per skill will be selected for the national team to represent India globally at the 48th WorldSkills competition, scheduled in Shanghai, China, from Sept. 22 to 26.
The competitions were organized across four zones—south, west, east and north. Participation was led by the North with 53 competitors, followed by the East with 40, the South with 35 and the West with 28, representing nearly every state and union territory in India.
"As the curtains close on another successful edition of the IndiaSkills Regional Competitions, I am filled with immense pride in what our young talent has achieved,” said Rajan Bahadur, THSC’s CEO, according to The Economic Times. “A great career is built on a solid foundation and this event has provided just that—a platform where passion meets precision. Our participants have not only showcased their skills but have also absorbed modern techniques and global standards, proving they understand the critical value of getting the basics right while pushing the boundaries of innovation.”
Bahadur said the platform's aim is to bring recognition to talented individuals from every corner of the country and nurture them through structured training and expert mentorship.
In July, THSC and The Lalit Suri Hospitality School signed a memorandum of understanding to improve the quality and reach of hospitality training in India.
