  • Domestic demand and strong owner confidence driving expansion.

IHG HOTELS & RESORTS aims to have more than 400 operational and in-development hotels in India within five years. It currently has more than 50 operational hotels and more than 80 under development, totaling close to 12,000 rooms.

The company said India remains a key growth engine and delivered a third consecutive year of record signings in 2025, according to the Economic Times. It has hotels opened or signed across eight brands in India, spanning luxury, premium and midscale segments. These include Six Senses, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, voco, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Garner and Staybridge Suites.

As part of its next growth phase, IHG will debut its Vignette Collection brand in India in early 2026, expanding its Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio.

Elie Maalouf, IHG’s CEO, said India is one of the group’s strategic markets globally and a major contributor to its long-term growth plans. He cited strong domestic demand, favorable demographics and continued owner confidence in IHG brands as key drivers of expansion.

“With a global portfolio of 20 distinct brands, we are expanding our presence in India by offering more choice to owners and guests,” Maalouf said. “The upcoming debut of Vignette Collection and a strong response to newer brands such as Garner highlight the relevance and flexibility of our portfolio in meeting evolving owner and guest needs.”

Sudeep Jain, IHG’s managing director for South West Asia, said India remains one of the company’s most active markets, supported by an underpenetrated branded hotel landscape and strong demand across both business and leisure travel.

Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express together account for more than 70 percent of IHG’s operating hotels in India and the majority of properties in its development pipeline.

The launch of Garner in 2025 marked the debut of IHG’s midscale conversion brand in India, with signings including Garner Etawah and Garner Kathua. Additional Garner hotels are planned in Kutch and Bhiwadi.

The opening of Crowne Plaza Lucknow in May 2025 marked IHG’s 50th operational hotel in India. The company has also expanded its voco brand with signings in cities and leisure destinations such as Srinagar, Goa, Gurugram, Mumbai, Amritsar and Jim Corbett National Park. InterContinental continues to grow across major metros and resort destinations including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mahabalipuram, Kasauli and Kodaikanal.
