IHG HOTELS & RESORTS and Chentoor Hotels Pvt. Ltd. are developing the 150-key Holiday Inn Express & Suites Madurai in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The hotel, located near Madurai International Airport, is scheduled to open in early 2029.
Madurai recorded more than 27 million visitors in 2024, driven by pilgrimage travel to the Meenakshi Amman Temple, IHG said in a statement. The city also serves as a transit hub for travel to Rameswaram and Kanyakumari, supported by infrastructure investment and IT/ITES and industrial projects that sustain business travel.
“Madurai is not only one of India’s most culturally significant cities but also an expanding economic center with year-round business, transit, and leisure demand,” said Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG. “With its proximity to the international airport and commercial clusters, the hotel will serve a broad guest base. This signing aligns with our strategy to expand in growth markets across India, and we are pleased to partner with Chentoor Hotels Pvt. Ltd.”
Holiday Inn Express operates more than 3,200 hotels globally.
A spokesperson for Madurai-based Chentoor Hotels said the project reflects the company’s focus on hospitality development in growth markets amid ongoing infrastructure and economic expansion in the city.
Separately, IHG recently signed the 45-key Garner Bhiwadi with Modest Structures Pvt. Ltd. in Khairthal-Tijara district. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2027 and will be managed by United Hospitality Management.
