Adani Airport Holdings’ proposal to build a luxury hotel at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala, India, received environmental approval. The project is valued at $15.24 million.
The 5-story project will have 240 rooms and a built-up area of 365,972.95 square feet, according to PTI. The approval by India’s Ministery of Environment, Forest and Climate Change followed a review by the appraisal committee in its August meeting.
The site, currently a parking area operated by the Adani Group, covers 86,111.28 square feet and was handed to the group under a long-term concession agreement with the Airports Authority of India in 2021. The development includes wastewater recycling, solid-waste management, a green belt, energy-saving features and the transplantation of 40 trees within airport grounds.
Authorities said the project is expected to take three years and generate about 300 direct and 900 indirect jobs. The hotel is part of Adani’s “City Side Development” plan for the capital, PTI reported. The group expects the facility to serve travelers and crew arriving at Vizhinjam port, which the company operates. A new immigration counter at Vizhinjam International Seaport is expected to support regional growth.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport.
