THANKS TO A loan backed by the USDA, A-1 Hospitality of Kennewick, Washington, plans to build a $11 million Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Hermiston, Oregon.

A-1 Hermiston is the subsidiary owner of the upper-midscale, limited-service hotel. A-1 Hospitality’s president and founder is Vijay Patel. His son, Taran Patel, is managing principal.

The USDA in May approved a $9.5 million loan toward the Fairfield Inn project, according to news posted on A-1 Hospitality’s website and in the East Oregonian newspaper. Old West Federal Credit Union is administering the loan.

Taran Patel is quoted as saying the company was working on closing the equity gap. He noted A-1 Hospitality does not yet have a start date on construction.

In December, Hermiston Planning Department approved the 111-room, four-story hotel to be built at Highway 395 and East Airport Road. The hotel will be near the East Oregon Event and Trade Center. The area is zoned for a hotel.

In April, Baywood Hotels opened its 10th Fairfield by Marriott hotel which also is the 1,000th Fairfield worldwide, in Denver. Al Patel is Baywood Hotel’s president.
