The top five markets for hotel room construction in the U.S. were New York, New York; Orlando, Florida; Dallas, Texas; Los Angeles, California; and Houston, Texas.

THE NUMBER OF hotel rooms in the U.S. pipeline rose 0.8 percent in July over the same time last year, according to STR. It was the first year-over-year rise in construction since November.

There were 1,449 projects with 190,260 rooms in construction in July. Another 1,809 projects with 194,475 rooms were in planning and 1,925 projects with 223,774 rooms were in final planning.

New York, New York, had the largest amount of rooms in construction, 13,389, making 11.1 percent of the total pipeline. It’s followed by Orlando, Florida, with 6,925 rooms or 5.5 percent of the pipeline; Dallas, Texas, with 6,337 rooms making up 7.2 percent; Los Angeles, California, with 5521 rooms making up 5.3 percent; and finally Houston, Texas, with 5,369 rooms comprising 6 percent of the pipeline.
