Rena Hozore Reiss will return to Marriott on Dec. 4.


Rena Hozore Reiss is the next executive vice president and general counsel at Marriott International Inc., Bethesda, Maryland. She will start the job on Dec. 4, filling the position to be vacated by General Counsel Ed Ryan, who recently announced his retirement. He has been in the role since 2006.

Reiss was previously executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Hyatt Hotels Corp. in Chicago.

She had worked for Marriott before, holding positions in the company’s law department from 2000 to 2010. Her last role was as vice president and associate general counsel.

Reiss has 17 years of experience in hospitality law. While with Hyatt, she led a global legal team with offices in Chicago, Zurich, Hong Kong, Beijing and Delhi, supporting all facets of Hyatt’s business. She also oversaw the company’s risk management team and corporate transactions group.

Earlier jobs included a partner at Counts & Kanne in Washington, D.C., and associate general counsel for the Miami Herald Publishing Co.

Reiss received her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and her juris doctorate from Harvard Law School. She serves on the Georgetown University Hospitality Law Advisory Board, was Hyatt’s representative on the board of directors of the American Hotel & Lodging Association and was named a 2017 Transformative Leader by Inside Counsel.
