Charlotte, North Carolina-based Maya Hotels on May 9 held a grand-opening celebration at its Hilton Garden Inn Gastonia/Charlotte West with a ‘Spring Into the Garden’ event. Baldev Thakor is president and co-founder of Maya Hotels and J.D. Deva is co-founder and CEO.

The 119-room hotel is located at 444 Cox Road, Gastonia. Nearby are the U.S. National White Water Center, Crowder’s Mountain State Park, Schiele Museum of Natural History, and Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens.

Maya Hotels bought the land in 2009 from Pearson Properties. Local government and tourism leaders rejoice in 2016 when Maya Hotels announced its plan to build a hotel on the site.

The ribbon cutting featured a reception with garden-themed hors d’oeuvres, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, property tours, raffle prizes, and entertainment by the Synergy Twins.

Mayor Walker Reid, members of the Gastonia City Council, and members of the Gaston Regional Chamber were among the special guests.

“The development of the Hilton Garden Inn Gastonia/Charlotte West is a testament to Maya Hotels’ commitment to Gaston County. We are delighted to celebrate the addition of this property to our portfolio,” Deva said.

Maya’s portfolio currently includes six properties with more than 600 guest rooms across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama with leading brand affiliations through Intercontinental Hotels and Hilton.
