AN ASIAN AMERICAN hotelier and a commercial real estate group have teamed up to build a Home2 Suites by Hilton in a New Mexico city.

Prakash Sundaram is president of Total Management Systems. He has been working on the hotel development in Alamogordo with Allen Sigmon Real Estate for the past two years.

The joint venture broke ground in early November on a tract of land just off Highway 54 and near the Holloman Air Force Base and the White Sands Missile Range.

Both companies’ headquarters are in Albuquerque.

The four-story, 90-room extended-stay hotel will have an outdoor pool, meeting space and an outdoor barbeque area. The upper-midscale property is expected to open in 2021. Sundaram Builders is the general contractor.

The hotel site is surrounded by a movie theater and family entertainment center as well as a residential neighborhood. Also nearby is land zoned for a restaurant.

Sigmon and Sundaram also developed The Courtyard by Marriott Las Cruces, which opened in July on land owned by New Mexico State University. Total Management Systems manages the 126-room property and has formed a partnership with the university’s Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management School.
