Whitbread PLC is to open Premier Inn London Richmond on June 18. The 93-room hotel is expected to contribute over £6.1m (US$9.3m) to the local economy while creating 37 new jobs.
Accor opened the Pullman Gurgaon Central Park, the group’s 500th hotel in the Asia-Pacific region. The announcement also marks the debut of the upscale Pullman brand in India. The 285-room property is Accor’s 17th hotel in India, which range from luxury to budget. In India, Accor expects to operate 23 hotels by year’s end, with a goal of 90 hotels by 2015.
Hyatt Hotels Corp. in May completed its previously announced acquisition of the 756-room Hotel Nikko Mexico in Polanco from Japan-Mexico Hotel Investment Co., Ltd. for approximately US$190m. The hotel has been rebranded as Hyatt Regency Mexico City. Over the next three years, a Hyatt affiliate is expected to invest approximately US$40m to renovate the hotel. Hyatt also announced plans for eight Hyatt-branded hotels in Latin America for a total of 12 Hyatt-branded hotels under development in Latin America. When these properties open, there will be 20 Hyatt-branded hotels in the region.
Interstate Hotels & Resorts has entered into a management agreement for The Marker, Dublin’s newest luxury hotel and apartment complex. The 187-room hotel is anticipated to open in early 2013. The Marker Hotel is owned by Brehon Capital Partners, a real estate private equity firm, together with Midwest Holdings, its investment partner. It is the 27th managed or signed hotel agreement in Europe for Interstate Hotels & Resorts.
Hotel Indigo Queen Street Cardiff in Wales is InterContinental Hotels Group’s latest development in that country. The 92-room property will be managed by Sanguine Hospitality Ltd, who have four other Hotel Indigo properties in their portfolio, including Hotel Indigo Liverpool and Hotel Indigo Birmingham. The signing follows the opening of a second Hotel Indigo in Scotland (Hotel Indigo Edinburgh) and a second Hotel Indigo (Hotel Indigo Berlin Centre Alexanderplatz) in Berlin this month. The 300-room Waldorf Astoria Chengdu China is expected to open in the second quarter of 2016. It is a joint venture between Hilton Worldwide and Chengdu Yincheng Property Co. It will be the fifth Waldorf Astoria in China.

The Ritz Carlton OkinawaJapan has opened. It is Hilton Worldwide’s first luxury resort in Japan. Hilton also has hotels in Tokyo and Osaka. The Ritz Carlton has 97 guestrooms and two suites that overlook the East China Sea and Kise Country Club.
Hilton Worldwide has signed a management agreement with Desarrollos RDC, S.A., a real estate development company in the Dominican Republic, to introduce its Embassy Suites by Hilton brand, an upscale, all suite offering, to Santo Domingo’s central business district. Scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2013, this hotel marks the second Embassy Suites by Hilton in the Dominican Republic and will be the third property in the country for Hilton Worldwide, which currently manages the Hilton Santo Domingo.
Hilton Worldwide has signed a new management agreement with Hoan Kiem Tourism & Trading Co. Limited to introduce the first Hilton Garden Inn in Vietnam.Scheduled to open in the second half of 2012, the 86-room Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi marks the debut of Hilton Garden Inn, a mid-priced brand, in Southeast Asia.The 11-story property will have 86 bedrooms and facilities for business and leisure guests. Hilton Worldwide currently manages one other hotel, the Hilton Hanoi Opera, in Vietnam.
Marriott International Inc.announced May 16 it has reached the milestone figure of 250 open and signed hotels in Asia, with the 250th hotel to be located in Bo’ao in China. This represents 129 Marriott hotels plus a development pipeline of 121 projects – totaling more than 75,000 rooms in 15 countries.
The 342-room Renaissance Huizhou Hotel in China opened April 23. The Marriott hotel opened under a long-term management agreement with Guangzhou R&F Properties Development Co., Ltd. an existing long-term partner. The hotel represents R+F’s sixth hotel with Marriott International. The hotel is the first Marriott property to open in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, and also the first Renaissance Hotels branded hotel to open in Pearl River Delta.
With recent hotel openings in Ningbo, Sanya, Yangzhou and Xian, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. announced in April that it has surpassed the opening of its 100th operating hotel in China with plans to open 15 additional hotels by the end of this year. With eight hotels already opened in the first quarter of 2012, Starwood will open a total of 23 hotels in China in 2012, which is on pace with 2011 openings making 2012 the second consecutive year the company has opened a record number of hotels here in any one year.
Seri Chenang Resort & Spa Langkawiwill be the newest edition of luxurious accommodation in Langkawi (Malaysia) with the grand opening scheduled for June 30, 2012. The resort features villas and guest rooms on Langkawi Island, an archipelago made up of 99 islands.
Four Points by Sheraton Kelowna Airportin British Colombia will open in spring 2013, announced Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. The 120-room hotels is at the entrance to Kelowna International Airport, Canada, which has been recently approved for a $50m expansion to accommodate large numbers of international travelers.
Best Western Premier Majestic Ponta Negra Beach has opened and is the first BW Premier hotel in Brazil. The property has 135 rooms and 15 suites. There are 15 other Best Western hotels in Brazil, and the company’s goal is to develop 20 more Plus and Premier brands by 2017.
DoubleTree by Hilton, Naha in Okinawa, Japan, is the 10th Hilton Worldwide hotel in Japan. The 227-room hotel is directly opposite the Okinawa Monorail station in Asahibashi, 11 minutes away from Naha Airport by monorail and 500 meters away from the local ferry terminal.
DoubleTree by Hilton London-Victoriahas opened opposite London Victoria Station, historically known as the starting point for the legendary Orient Express. Formerly known as the Hesperia London Victoria, the 225-room hotel has undergone refurbishment. It is operated by Southampton Row Hotel LLP, under a franchise license agreement with a subsidiary of Hilton Worldwide and managed by Crimson Hotel Group.
DoubleTree by Hilton, Shanghai-Pudongis the brand’s 10th hotel to open in China. The 850-room, two-tower, iconic hotel complex is 47 stories tall. Formerly a Sofitel JJ Oriental Hotel, the hotel will undergo a multi-million-dollar property refurbishment program to be completed in 2013. The hotel will operate under a franchise agreement with Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels (Group) Co. Ltd. and will be managed by Interstate China Hotels & Resorts Co. Ltd. The opening of DoubleTree by Hilton, Shanghai-Pudong is part of a hotel-development pipelineof more than 30 DoubleTree by Hilton hotels and resorts opening across China during the next few years.
