Hyatt to upgrade extended stay

Hyatt Hotels Corporation is transforming its extended-stay brand into the Hyatt House concept by converting all 38 of its Summerfield Suitehotels to the Hyatt House brand, on top of 16 Hotel Sierra hotels it acquired from LodgeWorks in July.

According to the Wall Street Journal, roughly half of Hyatt's extended-stay hotels are owned by franchisees forced to pay the cost of upgrading their establishments. Hyatt has not estimated the program's cost. According to MarketWatch, elements to be shared across all locations include a multi-purpose great lounge; apartment style studio, one- and two-bedroom kitchen suites; and redesigned food and beverage programs.

Hyatt Summerfield Suites hotels and Hotel Sierra hotels are expected to complete their name and signage changes by early 2012, with service upgrades and remodeling expected to occur over the course of the next year.
